How to do your manicure yourself at home

Being able to do some basic self-grooming comes in very handy when you are not able to go to the saloon for whatever reason. Its true that a lot of the more artistic and professional stuff can only be done by professionals or those with very steady hands, because applying nail polish perfectly can be really hard for some amateur people. But you can also do a lot just by yourself.

Mani Kit:

Having the right DIY tools is the first vital step to do it well. You’ll need:

  • Nail colors
  • Nail filer and buffer
  • Orange sticks for cuticles
  • Hand wash
  • Hand cream
  • Base coat
  • Gel setting coat
  • Nail polish remover and cotton
  • Nail cutter

Step 1

Start you manicure by removing any existing nail polish by nail polish remover and then cut the nails to the desired length. File your nails very carefully and remove all the irregular ends you may have after nail cutter.

For shape, the generally accepted rule is to file the front of your nails according to the shape of your cuticle. But if you want something else, something different, then definitely try some on and see what suits best to your desire.

Step 2

Wash your hands thoroughly to remove all the nail powder left after filing the nails. Moisturizing you hands after that is a must to get good results of the whole process. For moisturizing, you can either use a hand cream of your choice or just put your hands in warm soaked towels and sit back to relax for a little while.

Moisten your dry cuticles and then use some orange sticks to gently push back your cuticles and give them a proper shape. Avoid cutting them as it is not recommended.

Step 3

Buff your nails so that the nail polish or paint can have a hold of your nails and stays there longer. Now paint the nails very gently and try to be as precise as possible. Use different color combinations or art design you may deem fit for your personality.
